10/10/2012 The Digital Divide

Internet Usage in Africa

This is a map that i have created indicating what sections of africa has the most or least amount of internet usage. It can easily be seen that Africa has not got a lot of usage, due to the fact that it is hard to get access to the Internet in Africa. There is slightly more in the main Countries, like South Africa or Egypt. Africa, the continent, are in the LEDC ( Less Economically Developed Country) part of the world map as seen from this diagram.
This means that the Countries within Africa are a poor, or have less money themselves than the Countries in the MEDC (More Economically Developed Country) section. The countries are still developing and therefore may not have the funds to develop their digital parts, like internet coverage, mobile coverage or the amount of electricity available. As the Countries develop economically, the amount of money they spend on their internet will increase as they have sufficient funds that are not going towards certain problems Africa has, like poverty, a lack of civilisation and living space, and some of the countries currupt government system.
